Ramen is love

Top 10 ramen bar in HGW webbie. And off we go to try it!

Location.... In Mandarin gallery, shop is recognised by long queues and the atas looking shop front.

approximately 4-5 different kind of soup base and 3 different combi for each soup.
1. with tamago
2. with simmered pork belly
3. with simmered pork cubes

What is best is....... EXTRA SERVING OF NOODLES! for just $2!

Some special dishes that i didnt try becos noodles is the best thing there

Special miso paste and fragrant garlic soup, with pork cubes. Plus extra tamago on the side.
See the miso paste? Looks like chilli but its not. The dark sauce is mysteriously tasty and i got no idea what is it. The spring onions from Japan is also different from those we get in Singapore, its not as strong but still the onions goes well and blended with the garlic to be a perfect match!

Boy had spicy miso soup with tamago, i prefered mine better. He's lacked the garlic fragrance but had an extra tinge of spice and more onions to lift the taste.

Generous portions of pork belly and pork cubes. Very well marinated and soft, pork belly has balanced ratio of fats and meat, making it melt in your mouth with the oil infused into the meat.
Pork cubes is tender and moist, the size is just nice to absorb all the juicy marinate.

Noodles for the two kinds of noodles is different. Mine is thicker and softer while boy's is thinner more chewy and a bit curly.... For all noodles, you can choose the "doneness" of your noodles. Hard, medium and soft. I chose medium. It was good.

Tamago can be slightly better. Even thou it was well marinated the yolk can be more runny.

This is not comparable to Marutama ramen even though it is as authentic. The origin and tradition of this ramen is different from Marutama's. So it is dependent on your taste buds to make a choice.
Auntie note: Please be prepared to queue up for about half an hour at least. Ramen is slightly expensive but they do offer ice water. Desert was expensive. Saw the table beside us ordering mini sized desert. For the price, there are better choices out there.

24 hours Bah Kut Teh

Sin Heng Claypot Bah Kut Teh 24 hours but closed on mondays.

Conclusions?

Best for supper and value for money.

Huge variety and refillable soup.

bad and limited parking system.

Prawn omelette

for a $8 value it can be much bigger.

Eggs was smooth and quite thick for the texture but left overs on the plate was shiny and gives you a shock.

More prawns could have been better.

Ma you and ginger chicken.

Sauce is thick and goes super well with rice.

chicken wings is chopped up into smaller pieces to soak up the sauce.

Bah Kut Teh soup is the peppery kind more than the herbal soup kind. It is always served boiling. Pork ribs are served generously and we always share a large bowl even when we have 8 of us. Refillable right?

Baby Kailan used to be better in the past. Now it is harder and less flavourful. Plus we once found a vege worm in the plate. But was given an exchange.

Oats prawn was also better last time. Now its not as crispy, the head is too hard to be eaten. Less Oats. But overall prices are reasonable and if going with a group of friends it is value for money.
Aunty note: Food is value for money, no Gst and service charge. but charged for towels. Parking is free, but be prepared to move your vehicle half way whenever there is a free slot.

TCC!

The new love, whats more? It opens till late. Friday night chill out location.

The all time favourite. Baked rice with lobster bisque. The rice is not wet and mushy but moist soaked with the lobster bisque. The cheese manage to blend well with the special sauce and give a fine chewy texture. The seafood taste was overwhelming and is suitable for those who like seafood. Plus the 2 huge clams was succulent but would make you ask for more.
The garnishing however was bitter. Anyone knows the name for the vege?

The menu manage to carefully describe the dish so perfectly. But I felt the dish fell short of my expectations. Pasta did not soak up the sauce which was too runny had little texture. It was tomato sauce with water. Not much taste. Jus some garlic to lift the taste. The soft shell crab was normal but turned soggy very quickly.

Some parts of the crab was slightly burnt. :(

Pan fried dory with penne. This was better. Dory was fried crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Additional bread crumbs on the outside for the extra crunchy feel. I didnt like penne because it was not the traditional noodles shape and size but each time i tried penne it was a surprise.

Hawaiian like seafood baked pasta was well done as well. Slightly on the wet juicy side, the fail proof combo or ham, pineapple and cheese placed on pasta couldn't be better. Plus the bonus prawns and mushrooms, texture was further enhanced.

Last but not least, the legendary mudpie is yums. For a non coffee lover like me, the slight coffee taste was an enhancer for the chocolately mudpie, the base was rather hard but chewy enough to let another layer of mudpie get stirred up in the mouth. Plus the generous oreo shavings, was more than sinful. A very wise advise, please do not attempt to swallow this alone. You wont want to end up with a sore throat the next day.

Aunty note: Free membership, please do apply
I received a call from TCC Tamp 1 outlet informing that i am the top 10 spenders for the month and is lucky to receive 2 cathay movie tickets. I'm LOVING it.

Wendy's

It was rainy day when i first tried Wendy's. Newly opened fast food chain in Singapore is invading into the forever crowded Jurong Point. There isn't shelter linking to the restaurant, but staff was helpful to lend an umbrella.

Its kind of overated. Wendy's came in a surge but their food are not comparative to the other fast food. Had baked potato, the sauce was good, piping hot. BUT! look at the cheese? not baked at all.....

Burgers for meal. Fries was normal, nothing to comment.

The variety was just right, some seafood burgers available.

Small meat patty. No lettuce at all....

The burger i had was dry, batter was rough and the peppery patty wasn't satisfying at all.
Disappointment.

dimsum at simpang bedok

Many people would rather flock to Chinese restaurants to devour their favourite Dim Sum, or to travel down the crowded jam packed Geyland to have the 24 hours DimSum. But who knows? Simpang Bedok has one of the best DimSum. Forget about all the delicate looking DimSum, because only HongKong has it.

It was a great discovery, as chunks of prawns could be found within the hargaow. The skin was slightly thicker but yet it was chewy enough to go well with the filings.

Siew Mai was good too, solid, little fats and had the fish roe on top to decorate a little. It shows that chef actually puts in effort in this tiny Siewmai. And what's best? This is halal. Chicken siewmai.

Xiao long bao is my constant fear and ex love. Luckily friends' feedback about xlb here is not fantastic if not I would have felt the pain. Skin was too think, some were served with torn skin (meaning no "soup" / "juice" or "wadever that is") so dry XLB.

my all time favourite.Fried Prawn dumplings is love! Crispy skin, Fillings going to explode out of the skin. The fillings are fragrant and seafoody taste yet its not too salty like those frozen ones we buy from the shelves. Dipped with mayo, and it reminds me of wad i superbly love.

Fried Kwey teow on the other hand is SO SO. Perhaps we were full by then, but i felt it was rather oily and would prefer the malay style. No pork no lard? its hard to suit the tastebuds of the unhealthy chinese.

Auntie note: Ordered the rojak too but din have a picture of it. The servings were super huge 3 person had a hard time finishing it. Value for money!

New Hawa

My favourite hunt hasn't disappointed me once. For a period of time New Hawa had been outcasted by the rest to hide in the small alley. But luckily the darkest days are now over and they are now at the same row as 98.7 and spize.
So being the forever hungry people, boy and I, 2 person with a huge appetite ordered a loads of food.

First up we had chilli crab.
We asked the auntie which one in the menu is the best and she said chilli.
And as true as it is, the sauce for the crabs are wonderful. Not as starchy as NSB, not too spicey, you can see the slimy eggs in it. One thing i thought the chef should not do would be to deep fry the crab. Many people have the concept that if the crab is deep fried the flesh will not fall apart. But it is rather hard to tell the duration to fry the crab, any minute longer will make the crab dry and tough, losing its natural juice. But even though it was fried, New Hawa's crabs were still considered okay. The sauce simply made up for the short comings of the crabs.

Some vegetables for fibre intake. Yet it was a good choice. Fragrant smell of garlic, soft yet not overcooked kailan with aromatic sauce to go with your rice.

The spicier kind of hot plate tofu. This had quite a lot of different varieties of ingredients added, like cauliflower, mushroom, carrots, praws, peas..... The sauce was just right, not too starchy, the eggy smell of the egg tofu was blending in well, and the egg at the base was slightlu burnt to give the fragrant taste.

Last but not least is Tom Yam soup. It has fishballs, fishcake, 2 kinds of mushroom, prawns, sotong, fish, baby corn, carrot. All for just $7 for this huge bowl.
It is not the authentic version of soup, but a very stong taste of spicyness. I love it as much.

Auntie note: New hawa has got so many other nice food as well, like their superb chicken chop, lemonade, maggi goreng. The crabs are much cheaper as well, 2 average sized crabs for just $28!!!!! Where to find?

Lovely Xia mian

Was looking for something light and simple for dinner away from the crowd so we went to have prawn noodles just around the area. Staying away from the usual katong at least, but not any further though.

The shop is very famous and the owner seems to be someone famous. Many celebrity photos were hung on the walls. But what curious me would be the lack of crowd during dinner time while i was there. Not even half filled.

The soup had a strong prawn taste to it, must have been boiled for hours before serving. The flavour was strong yet smooth, not too overwhelming. The seafood taste blended well with the noodles which contributed a "flour" taste to the soup but was still as delicious and slurpy. Prawns on the other hand could have been more generous, for $4, this is slightly tiny.

I had the dry version, i wanted it spicy but was given it with a mixture of tomato sauce. A big minus point. Even though i thought the noodles were well cooked, Q ness was maintained, the ketchup was still a turn off.

Had a bowl of soup which proved to be nicer than the one without noodles as the soup had the seafood taste all infused within, without any "contaminants".

Was a good experience, just that soup was slightly salty.

Auntie note: Parking should be free but limited. They seem to be selling bah chor mee in the afternoon so please come at the correct time.

I cant find the exact address of this place.

It is along East Coast road just two shops away from Two Fat Men.

The 50th post competition results!!!!!

The champion entry is out!!!!!
Thanks for all the support and publicity, I've received response from my readers and they are simply so well done. I will be posting the top 3 entries and their prizes! For now please enjoy my favourite entry~~~~~~
Today Amins will show you how easy it is to cook lasagna..or to be exact "Amins' Inner Beauty Lasagna"
What you will need:Baking ovenElectricity (ok thats lame =X)
Baking tin (tall longish rectangular shape)
Aluminium foil (optional)
(and the im-sure-you-have-them-at-home stuffs)
Boiling PotContainer
Cooking oil
Frying pan
Ingredients:Some potatoes (5 regular-sized ones will be enough)
Shredded cheddarCheese slices
Spaghetti sauce
Spaghetti cream sauce
Minced meat (beef/chicken) / or you could use burger patties
Actually lasagna will taste better with beef....so why chicken?Well..some people can't eat beef in the same way that some people can't eat pork....so let us try using chicken and see how it tastes.Well, I used chicken burger patties.. for convenience sake.Remember to thaw the patties until they are soft.If not, you could use a microwave oven to help you thaw em.Pre-heat oven to 350 degree F (175 degree C) before you start.

Step 1: Boil the potatoes with high heat (For at least 15 mins / or until the potatoes turn soft)

Step 2: While waiting for the potatoes, cut the patties into as many small pieces as you can.

Step 3: Fry the "minced chicken patties"

Step 4: Peel the boiled potatoes and cut them into similar thickness..

Step 5: Mix the fried minced chicken and spaghetti sauce.Make sure that it's chunky and not too watery.

Step 6: First layer. Spread layer of the sauce mix into the baking tin.Not too thick though!

Step 7: 2nd layer. Place potato slices on top of the mix.Try to cover every "holes" and make em evenly spreaded out.

Step 8: 3rd Layer. Spread cream sauce.

Step 9: 4th layer. Put cheese slices.

Step 10: 5th layer. Sprinkle shredded cheddar.

(Okay~~ Time to repeat the few previous steps)Step 11: 6th layer. Spread sauce mix again.

Step 12: 7th layer. Potato slices again.

Step 13: 8th layer. Cream sauce again.

Step 14: 9th layer. Cheese slices again.

Step 15: 10th layer. Sprinkle cheddar cheese again.

Step 16: 11th & final layer. Finally~~! Spread sauce mix again. And then sprinkle some shredded cheddar again.

Step 17: Time to bake!! Approximately, 30-40 mins.Depends on your oven's capability. =S
Step 18: When you see some edges of the top layer being slightly burnt, this means it's ready!!

Step 19: Remove from oven and let it cool for 10-15 minutes before serving.Total time I took: Abt 1 hour
Okay okay..... I know it doesn't look the best..Now you know why it's called the Inner Beauty Lasagna.. =XDoesn't look good but taste good! =D

Me not pleased with the look of the lasagna. =(

Ermm.. a half-eaten lasagna pic.. =SMy mom, sis & maid were too anxious to try and I haven't take the "end product" pic yet.. =S(And im suppose to send the pics for an online food contest.. =/ )Anyways, they said it was very nice... =DYay~

Preparation : 25 mins
Cooking Time: 35 mins
Thank You Amin, that was superb!
I will be posting the other 2 soon. :)
