Just Acia

Stranded in the East of Singapore not knowing where to eat?

Just Acia may not be the best but it is definitely value for money.

Simply get a set meal and you get to enjoy free flow drinks and ice cream!

Make your own root beer float and hot chocolate to drink all night long.

First set is Korean stir fry chicken with rice.

huge plate of chicken, with some kimchi by the side. served steaming hot. not so much on quality but quantity.

See, effort put in. Sesame seeds. :)

Yummy hot chocolate with foam some more.....

Breaded prawns by the side. cheap and good. not coated with thick batter but light and crispy bread crumbs.

not as impressive as compared to the rest. tom yam was not authentic in taste. dont even taste like maggi tom yam. ingredients were generous but simply just dump and cook. not recommended.

crispy seafood rolls. as the name suggest. crispy. the seafood filling was succulent, not too dry, not too salty with some 'real flesh' texture.

soft shell crab was slightly softer i guess due to the size of the crab. slightly too big to be deep fried. but overall the taste was up to standard. better than some of the budget japanese restaurants.

total bill :)

Auntie note: cheap food, free flow drinks and ice cream. be very hungry so that you can eat the ice cream after the meal.

Thai Table

was reading a food blog yesterday and felt really guilty.
the blogger even though with not so good quality pictures, short description and some weird stories manage to capture my attention with reviews on rare eateries. some interesting places in chinatown that i am so eager to try out now.

thai food for bday for me this year.
Tom Yam soup for me and boy. the soup was on the spicy side, not too sour. it was quite worth the money given the amount of ingredients (sorry not reflected well in this pic). placed over a flame to ensure that there is hot soup throughout the dinner.

Thai Fish Cake
was just ok. i think slightly dry, not to my liking. the coconut milk on top smelled rather heavy and didnt complement the fish cakes well.

minced chicken with basil leaves wasnt to my liking too. slightly milky, onions made it taste overly sweet. this dish supposedly goes well with rice, but too sweet to go along.

Baby Kailan was good. with golden garlic sprinkled on top. effort made to enhance the appeal of vegetables. if you have kids, there's mushrooms as well.

Vermicelli was perfect. the wok taste was nice and fragrant enhanced by the huge variety of ingredients. the vermicelli was not too soft, QQness was still preserved. especially like the black fungus adding to the colour.

Fish on the other hand was good but lost to competitor NAKHON. fish was smaller, less meaty. the sauce was too watery to coat the fish whenever you take it up. however fish was fresh and fried to the right crispiness.

Auntie note: quite value for money, free parking but hard to find a slot. staff is friendly and place is not packed to the brim. good for couples dating.

Overall, thai table was good. call up earlier for sri lanka crabs for low low price. will come back again if i had no idea what to eat i guess.

Food for thought

This post is at least 3 months post dated. :) But fret not because pictures shall do the talking.
Was out with the girls for a small short gathering. Chose this place because some filming took place here and i super like the show.

Food for thought. Located right opposite the new dblo. Who would have known its also a hidden gem?

Menu was slighly skimpy though.

Fast Food Style? So that dont have to clean the tables?

Tables look simple but good enough. A pity cos no back rest. The whole colour theme of the restaurant was well integrated and matching.

The pasta section was ok ok.... I ordered Garlic Prawns with Corriander Linguine.
Min ordered the Prawn and Calamari Risotto

Ok, this is jus about the girls

SOrry hui, this is not edited.

Ok, this will agar tell you how long ago this gathering was.
But the main focus is the menu k....

Had English Breakfast.

Here comes my pasta.
The pasta was al dente, topped with corriander rather than cooked with it. Hardly tasted any corriander. Garlic strong was well balanced with the olive oil fragrance.
Prawns were big and crunchy.

This is hui's half breakfast. Eggs were runny and slightly on the buttery side. Bacon was crispy and had all the oil off from it. I like it but its not her type of bacon.

Mel had this wonderful thing. Pancake with gula melaka, topped with chocolate chips and whipped cream. The gula melaka melted and soaked the pancakes sweet while the choco chips provided the aromatic cocoa fragrance and the cream adding another layer of texture. Yummy.

Min's Risotto. Was ok, not too thick nor runny. Ingredients were generous.

Potato gratin for hui was yummy, serving was a bit too big for her to finish. topped with cheese that filled to the brim and the creamy potato. A recommendation to share if not it'll be slightly too thick to finish.

The only concern i had was the amount of oil left over from my pasta. Towards the last few mouths oil starting coating my mouth. Didnt like the feeling.

Auntie note: Tea can be refilled with hot water over and over again. Good choice if you are not after their fatty milk shakes.

Not G6 but G7

Alright, the lazy saturday afternoon reminded me that its march. I know i didnt post as promised. So as a form of apology, shall do some real intro of good food.
G7 Sim Ma Seafood Tze Char

Was with boy there for new year's eve. The quatity of food is for 2. First up, salted egg crabs. Crabs are deep fried before stirring in the salted eggs but i think its slightly over fried making it too dry. Meat is slightly dry and compacted. Salted eggs on the other hand was thick, not too salty but can do better if its slightly more buttery. I guess if there were less customers on that day, chef will definitely do a thumbs up salted egg crab for me.

Yummy frogs.
What is special is the sauce. Gong Bao sauce that is thick enough to stir in your porridge. Slightly on the spicy side to wet your appetite. The meat is soft and tender, dropping off its bone without trying too hard.

French beans with shrimps.
Yummy to the max. Super crunchy and juicy.
The shrimps is even fried till crispy together with lard and garlic.
A perfect blend as the slightly salty dried shrimps give the natural flavour to the dish without much effort.
Home made tofu.
Tofu was soft and tender. The slight eggy taste melts in your mouth and doesnt leave a squeaky after taste. The sauce was of the right thickness and is meat sauce was super tasty with the mushrooms marinated in. Boy was saying the sauce will definitely taste good stirred with rice.
Overall this place is definitely worth visiting. Reasonably priced and good food.
A low point would be the location, although it is quite accessible by bus its is located at the middle of no where.
Auntie note: There is a promotion where you can get free frogs if you order more than 2 frogs.
This sounds odd. The promotion is something like buy 2 get 1 free. Buy 3 get 2 free.
So get more people to go eat together!

Apologetic.

Looks like blog is kind of dead. It speaks a lot about the owner.
I shall publish a post by next week.
Because the passion hasn't died down.
Sometimes life goes through changes.
The other day i went to a Japanese Ramen shop for lunch.
It was a disappointment.
It used to be one of the better rated ones.
I excitedly took a photo before eating but felt how unworthy it was to post it.

Till i'm back to reality. I hope readers can bear with me.
